The EBI, in collaboration with E-Axes Forum, organized a joint webinar on June 10, on “Navigating Bank Climate Disclosure: Regulatory Developments in the US and EU”. This event was moderated by Anastasia Pappas, Founder of E-Axes Forum.

EBI Book Discussion
 “The Eurosystem’s Monetary Policy at 25 (1999-2023)”
with the author Prof. Christos V. Gortsos

On May 16, the EBI, in collaboration with the Center for Financial Market Regulation at the University of Zurich (UZH) and the Europa Institut Zurich (EIZ), organised an online book discussion on the book of Prof. Christos V. Gortsos (President of the Academic Board of EBI; National and Kapodistrian University of Athens) entitled: “The Eurosystem’s Monetary Policy at 25 (1999-2023)”.

This event was moderated by Prof. Rolf Sethe (UZH & Member of the Academic Board of EBI). 

We would like to thank Prof. Chiara Zilioli (General Counsel of the European Central Bank), Prof. Seraina Grünewald(Member of the Academic Board of EBI; University of St. Gallen) and Prof. René Smits (Member of the Academic Board of EBI; University of Amsterdam) for the intellectually challenging discussion of the book with the author.

“Forging Digital Money in the Tokenization Era: Reshaping Legal Tender?”

From 8-10 May, this event brought together world-leading academics, central bankers, and regulatory experts to address one of the most transformative challenges of our time: redefining the monetary landscape through digital currencies and payment systems.

It aimed to contribute to the lively debate to find a way to harmonise technological advancement with prudential oversightand market efficiency with systemic stability. The discussions navigated the complex interplay between traditional monetary mechanisms, emerging legal frameworks, and the technological underpinnings of digital currencies.

Expressions of gratitude are extended to all participants in the two roundtables and panels at this valuable conference. In particular, gratitude is directed towards Prof. Filippo Zatti (University of Florence) for organising such a high-quality conference.

26th EBI Policy Serie
“ECB Supervisory Priorities 2025-27”

On May 6, the EBI Policy Center hosted its 26th EBI Policy Series on “ECB Supervisory Priorities 2025-27”. This event was moderated by Nejc Smole, EBI. 

We would like to thank Mario Quagliariello (European Central Bank), Martin Switaiski (Deutscher Sparkassen- und Giroverband e.V.), and Björn Elfstrand (Sparbankernas Riksförbund) for the lively discussion.

Crossborder Financial Services – Is this the End?

On 5 May 2025, the Center for Financial Market Regulation at the University of Zurich together with the European Banking Institute (Frankfurt) organized a half-day seminar entitled: “Crossborder Financial Services – Is this the End?”

The seminar, kindly hosted by the University of Zurich, reviewed the current state of EU law and its compatibility with GATS commitments of member states and analyzed the Berne Financial Services Agreement between Switzerland and the UK as a ray of hope for free trade in financial services. It also discussed strategic options for Switzerland and conclude with a call for action and a panel discussion.

The EBI wishes to thank all participants again for their contribution to this important event.
