Joint Conference on “Finance on the Brink: Sustainability, Simplification, and Geopolitical Pressures”

24 September 2025 @ 8:30 am - 3:30 pm
Event Series (See All)

The European Banking Institute (EBI) together with University of Madrid Carlos III and in collaboration with Green Central Banking

are pleased to invite you to their joint conference on:

“Finance on the Brink: Sustainability, Simplification, and Geopolitical Pressures”

(in Madrid)

Sustainable Finance is under scrutiny. Across the globe, governments are considering paring down sustainability rules, or abandoning them altogether, while companies ponder whether to ditch “ESG” labels, or some of their letters. Too often, the discussion oversimplifies, treating climate and competitiveness, environmental and social, sustainability and geopolitics as polar opposites.  We need a more nuanced discussion. Sustainability opens a space for gathering new data and intelligence, which can be a lever for nimbler companies, safer banks, and smarter supervisors.

This conference seeks a meaningful debate over the tensions and complementarities. It will be structured in three panels, covering the above topics.
