Press Release: EBI receives grant from the Innovation Fund from German State of Hesse

The European Banking Institute (EBI) is pleased to announce that, starting in 2024, it will receive an annual grant of 20,000 euros from the Innovation Fund of the Hessian Ministry of Science and Research, Art and Culture. This financial support is secured until approximately 2028 and is earmarked for the implementation of the EBI event series “Banking Union”.

The Innovation Fund of the Hessian Ministry of Science and Research, Art and Culture aims to promote innovative projects in the field of science and research. The approval of these funds underscores the importance of the EBI event series as a significant driver for science, the financial sector and the economic development in the region.

The EBI’s Banking Union event series serves as a forum for exchange among academics, policymakers, and practitioners from the banking and financial sector. It provides a platform to discuss current challenges and developments in European banking. With this series, the EBI not only strengthens Frankfurt as a financial hub but also promotes dialogue at a European level. The Banking Union series will start in the fall of this year with a conference on the experience after 10 years of SSM.

President of the EBI, Dr. Thomas Gstaedtner: “We are very proud that the State of Hesse, which became an institutional member 3 years ago, is now also supporting the EBI financially. This underlines the importance of the EBI for academic and policy research in Hesse, Germany and Europe.”

Hessian Minister for Science and Research, Arts and Culture, Timon Gremmels: “The event series enhances the visibility of Hessian universities in research on banking and financial markets, thereby also strengthens the importance of our academic landscape for the international financial community. The research results are directly integrated into practice and contribute regional expertise to the Europe-wide dialogue.”

Hessian Minister of Finance, Professor Dr. R. Alexander Lorz: “The EBI represents the networking of science and banking in Europe, emphasizing the internationality of the financial hub Frankfurt. I am very pleased that the event series actively supports and accompanies the further development of the Banking Union in the EU.”
