It is with great pleasure that EBI announces the appointment of Prof. Dr. Edgar Löw as a member of the Financial Instruments Working Group of the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG FIWG) as of 1 June 2021.

Edgar Löw holds a position as Professor of Management Practice in Accounting at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management and is the program director of the Master in Auditing program. He is a member of the Academic Board of the EBI and also serves in important and influential European organisations, such as the Banking Stakeholder Group (BSG) of the European Banking Authority (EBA), which is an advisory group for EBA, as well as the Accountancy Europe, the European professional organisation of accountants and auditors.

EFRAG advises the European Commission on the highest level possible on technical questions of the development of European and International Financial Reporting Standards. Members of the expert group include representatives of accounting and audit companies as well as other professional organisations. Only two European academics belong to the EFRAG FIWG, which is why the appointment is a special honour.

Commenting on the appointment, Dr. Thomas Gstädtner, President of the Supervisory Board of the EBI, stated: “It is a great honour for EBI to have its members at the forefront of current developments in the field of International Financial Reporting Standards. The appointment demonstrates again the outstanding quality of the academics in EBI and is another example of how EBI fosters interaction between academia, regulators, supervisors and the industry.”
